Every Dollar Feeds Kids

A Word on Children’s Hunger:

In a world of unmet needs, the most tragic reality is that every year eleven million children younger than five years of age — 30,000 per day — die from hunger and disease. More than half of these deaths are directly due to malnutrition.

Hundreds of millions of children go to bed hungry every night. Even where schools are available, many of these kids are too weak to attend. Inadequate nutrition in the years between birth and three years of age can irrevocably affect brain growth, learning potential, long-term health and academic performance.

20 million low birth-weight babies are born ever year in the poor world. 27% of these children under five are severely undernourished. 34% are physically stunted and below the norms in height and weight.

Every Dollar Feeds Kids (EDFK) provides food support to children in Mexico, Ecuador and right here in the U.S. through Kids Cafe in Hartford, CT.  These kids would otherwise have to survive on occasional meals from their poverty-stricken families. This food assistance enables these kids to have the strength to attend school.

EDFK FACT:

Every Dollar Feeds Kids is sponsored by the EDFK Partner Churches: First Congregational Church of San Rafael, California, the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Sisters, Oregon, and First Congregational Church in Southington, Connecticut. Many other congregations and individuals are “Contributing” members of EDFK.

The administration of EDFK is managed entirely by volunteers and overhead expenses are covered by the Partner churches. More information about Partner Church participation is available on the Donate page of this website.

EDFK Connecticut is administrated by First Congregational Church of Southington, Connecticut.

100% of the money EDFK raises goes directly and immediately to feeding hungry children in Ecuador, Mexico and Hartford, CT.

Every Dollar Feeds Kids (EDFK) supports children in the city of Cuernavaca, Mexico by sending funds to VAMOS!, a private mexican service organization.  In Guayaquil, Ecuador we provide food support through Fundacion Sor Dominga Bocca.  Starting in 2009, we also support Kids Cafe in Hartford, CT.  We provide regular meals and vitamin supplements to youngsters who would otherwise have to survive on occasional meals from their poverty-stricken families. This food assistance enables these kids to have the strength to attend school.

Since its founding in 2002, the EDFK partners have provided more than 1,000,000 meals to needy children through our projects. We have raised more than $ 400,000 to support the feeding programs. In 2004, an EDFK friend made a $100,000 donation for the purchase of Casa Tatic, the multi-purpose building in downtown Cuernavaca serving street children and indigent seniors in the area.

Donations to Every Dollar Feeds Kids can be sent directly to EDFK partners and are fully tax deductible.  Click here for information on how to donate.

Every Dollar Feeds Kids Mission

Every year, millions of people die from malnutrition and related illnesses.  Of the thousands who die every day from hunger and nutrition-related disease, more than half are children.  Every Dollar Feeds Kids seeks to reduce these terrifying statistics through nutritional support to poverty-stricken children.

Hundreds of millions of children go to bed hungry every night.  Even where schools are available, many of these children are too weak to attend.  Every Dollar Feeds Kids seeks to enable children to learn by supplying them with adequate nutrition. Our missions is to express God’s Love through food so children in poverty can learn, develop self-respect and thrive.

“When they are very, very hungry they just don’t learn.” - P. Coleman, VAMOS!
