Every Dollar Feeds Kids was founded in
1999 by the First Congregational Church of San Rafael, California, to
provide food and assistance to impoverished children in the vicinity of
Cuernavaca, Mexico. The San Rafael program is now one of several
EDFK Partner Churches.
EDFK works cooperatively with VAMOS!, an independent
service organization founded in 1986 by Bill and Patty Coleman and Ike
Patch. VAMOS! currently supports 82 separate educational, health and
nutrition projects in Mexico. EDFK provides the food for many of the
feeding programs within the VAMOS! network.
Every dollor contributed to or raised by EDFK goes
directly and immediately to feeding hungry kids. Volunteers
handle the local administration of funds. All administrative and
promotional costs are covered by the sponsoring churches. Funding
decisions are made on the basis of the potential success of the local
project: educational attainment, health progress, family well-being,
and the assurance that every dollar will be used for food for kids. EDFK projects are strictly non-denominational.

You are currently visiting the home pages of EDFK, Connecticut, which
is coordinated on the East Coast by the First Congregational Church of
Southington, Connecticut. As a Partner Church, we provide support
to VAMOS! In addition to this, EDFK Connecticut has begun to
provide support to an orphanage in Guayaquil, Ecuador beginning in 2005.
In the five years since its founding, the several EDFK
partners have provided more than 500,000 meals to needy children at
VAMOS! projects. We have now raised more than $ 250,000 to support the
feeding programs. Through an EDFK friend, a donation of $ 100,000 was
made in 2004 to VAMOS! to enable the purchase of Casa Tatic, the
multi-purpose building in downtown Cuernavaca serving street children
and indigent seniors in the area.
Every Dollar Feeds Kids has now been granted 501(c)(3)
tax exemption status by the IRS. All donations to the program are now
channeled directly through EDFK partners and are fully tax deductible.
Every Dollar Feeds Kids Mission
Every year, millions of people die from malnutrition and related
illnesses. Of the thousands who die every day from hunger and
nutrition-related disease, more than half are children. The
mission of Every Dollar Feeds Kids is to help reduce these terrifying
statistics through nutritional support to poverty-stricken children.
Hundreds of millions of children go to bed hungry every night.
Even where schools are available, many of these children are too weak
to attend. Every Dollar Feeds Kids seeks to enable children to
learn by supplying them with adequate nutrition.
